Taharenda Leon is a graduate of York University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology Science (Hon) and a Diploma in Community and Justice Services from the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. Taharenda migrated to Canada in 2008 after growing up in Jamaica. She has been on her own since the age of 17, despite having a difficult life she managed to achieved educational and career success by staying grounded and having faith.
Early in her career she was a Peer Leader for Central Peel Secondary School, a Tutor for United Achievers. In these roles she displayed exceptional leadership skills, organizational skills, and a passion for serving others. She executed acute problem-solving skills, developing solutions for emotional and mental support. Between 2009 to 2012 God blessed her and she was able to obtain her first professional job as a Receptionist for Optimum Medical Services INC. In this role she worked closely with her boss, carrying out administrative duties, organizing documents, supplying and keeping track of company equipment’s/stationary and cascading information to staff members.
In 2012, she volunteered as Junior Counselor for Break Free Family Centre. She provided counselling and support, contributed to research and development, events planning and carried out administrative tasks. After volunteering for a year due to her exceptional job she became a member of the staff team and worked closely with Dr. Keith for several years.
In 2016 she migrated to the province of Alberta and Fingerprint Technician and Paralegal Support where she conducted interviews and assessments, fingerprint for the RCMP and provided information and help to clients obtain a Record Suspension. She was a commissioner of Oath as well administering oaths and affirmations for clients. Her current role as a Youth Services Officer for the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services displays her years of knowledge and experience working with and amongst children. She provides support and supervision as a Primary Worker and member of a multi-disciplinary team. She is well-versed on the legislative laws that protect our children. She uses her counselling skills with a flexible approach and techniques that are suitable for each individual. She motivates and Inspires youth.
Taharenda’s hardworking skills, intelligence, attention to detail and her my previous work experience in diverse community settings, combined with my strong social and critical thinking skills is what continues to aid her in helping those who may need help. I am inspired with the organization’s community involvement along with the commitment to provide opportunities and alternatives that lead to success and positive life choices. Taharenda’ s life and work experience, combined with her passion for your organization’s mission/vision of promoting a community where people from all ethnic groups can achieve their full potential in a safe environment.
