The Breakfree Business Pathway Program is a partnership between Breakfree Family Centre and Business Takeout designed to empower single mothers in underserved communities. The program blends trauma-informed counselling, life skills development, and practical business education, while addressing immediate needs and barriers to participation.
Key Features and Supports:
Participants complete an intake process to identify their needs, strengths, and goals. Individualized action plans are developed in partnership with program staff.
The Counselling and Life Skills segment forms the foundation of our holistic approach, creating a safe space where participants can heal, grow, and build essential resilience. Through specialized trauma-informed methodologies, our certified counsellors work alongside participants to address deep-rooted barriers, process past experiences, and develop healthy coping mechanisms. The interactive life skills workshops complement this healing journey by equipping participants with practical tools for everyday challenges—from effective communication techniques and healthy relationship boundaries to budgeting essentials and strategic goal planning. This dual focus on emotional wellbeing and practical capabilities creates a powerful foundation upon which participants can build both personal confidence and professional aspirations, knowing they have comprehensive support systems in place throughout their transformation journey.
The Business Education and Entrepreneurship component transforms participants’ aspirations into actionable pathways toward economic independence. Through carefully designed workshops led by experienced entrepreneurs and business professionals, participants gain hands-on experience with essential business concepts tailored specifically to their unique circumstances and community context. From developing comprehensive business plans and identifying viable market opportunities to mastering fundamental marketing strategies and establishing sound financial practices, each session builds practical skills while nurturing entrepreneurial confidence. Business Takeout’s specialized guidance helps demystify the often overwhelming legal and administrative aspects of business ownership, breaking down complex processes into manageable steps that participants can navigate with growing assurance.
